What is the Law of Attraction?
Well one thing’s for sure it is a huge money spinner! In a world that is rapidly descending into chaos, knowledge of the Law appears to offer a quick and easy route to clawing back some control. Therefore there are plenty of people who are eager to know more about it.
Unfortunately any Tom, Dick or Harry who purports to know all about ‘The Law’ can easily dupe the vulnerable into parting with their money. Seminars, books, e-books, DVD’s abound*. Why do so many people get sucked in? Well, if we feel that we have power over who and what enters our life, and especially if we can conjure up some financial security along the way, it will put us back in the driving seat and offer protection against the negative facets of life. Right?
I have to say that I don't believe it is right. We need to be careful not to lose sight of the fact that life is not a game of survival, or a quest to accumulate material goods, it’s a process of growth and unfoldment. The Law is not something that is outside of us which we need to learn how to manipulate, it is something that we are already constantly participating with and need to awaken to. In effect rather than seeking control over our life, we perhaps need to learn to surrender to its natural flow and rhythms and trust that we are a part of a supportive cosmos.
The Law of Attraction is just part of many ‘laws’ all operating concurrently and they all refer to laws of energy – because at source that is what you, me and every animate and inanimate thing in the Universe is comprised of, including the Universe itself. Ultimately it is believed that we are the Universe and the Universe is us, but we are individuated parts of it. In other words we are simultaneously it and not it; simultaneously connected and alone.
A human being is part of the whole, called by us ‘universe’, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest – a kind of optical delusion of consciousness - Einstein
Astrology is the most ancient of disciplines and the Mother and Father of all others, such as Astronomy, Mathematics, Geometry and even Music. One could even say then that, whether Einstein accepted astrology or not, it certainly informed him. I consider it to be the greatest unrecognized gift given to Man and one which will, one day, be accepted from pole to pole, when enough people have awakened to Truth. It is the only tool we have at our disposal to know ‘energy’ in all of its manifestations. That’s a big statement matched only in size by the impact it could have on your existence if you care to research and embrace it.
Here’s another: All energy is Mind or, as Hermetic teachings have conveyed since way before the birth of Christ, The All is Mind, an infinite, living mind of creation. It is thought that without this understanding – the Master-key – the student will knock in vain at the many doors of the Temple.
It is also said that Truth is always recognized by Man and I ask you to consider what is happening within you as you read through this article. Incredulity? Outright dismissal? Discomfort? Or do you feel a resonance with these words?
As Kahlil Gibran so eloquently expressed:
No man can reveal to you aught but that which already lies half asleep in the dawning of your knowledge.
This reminds us that the resonant feeling comes from remembering something you already know.
If you sign up to my mailing list you can join me on my journey as I 'rediscover' more and more about the ancient laws, traditions and metaphysical concepts. In the meantime there are many other articles on this site (and my blogs) and you may like to watch my video about the Universal Laws.
If you haven’t done so already, perhaps you could explore the premise that the Universe is Mind. One simple way to do this is to cultivate the daily practice of watching how your thoughts turn into your reality. In this respect Mind is pure energy; the truth being that energy and matter are interchangeable words.
You may also like to seek out the work of authors who inspire you with tales of their own route to higher consciousness. Ones who I personally feel embrace the all important values of integrity and authenticity, are people such as Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Iyanla Vansant and Dan Millman. I know Doreen Virtue, Ph.D has a book out called Divine Magic which is about the ancient hermetic laws. I haven’t read it yet but I hear it is very good and along the same lines as what I have gleaned from my studies. Then, of course, there is ‘The Prophet’ by Gibran which is an absolute classic, one which in an ideal world would be required reading across the globe!
Finally, I would urge you to maintain a healthy cynicism about some of the more overtly commercial sites. Your criteria may well be different to mine, but I always favour guidance and advice from those who can demonstrate significant success with Law of Attraction techniques and those who are living an entirely different quality of life to the average person. In short, I highly recommend that you seek out those ‘teachers’ who have been advising about the power of the mind and manifesting since way before the current ‘LoA’ wave - which began in earnest with the release of 'The Secret' movie and book. That way you can be fairly sure they are not just hopping on a band-wagon. If you make it your intention to find the right people for you, then you can be sure they will appear!
When the student is ready, the teacher will appear
Good luck on your path and thank you for reading.
* Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of people doing wonderful work in the field of human potential and higher consciousness but a big budget or a glossy façade can sometimes be as much of an illusion as reality is revealing itself to be. One acid test is to discover your advisors thoughts on Astrology, for the Law of Attraction is enmeshed with this subject and I have yet to meet a teacher who rejects its symbolic language.
